Every month, UCI Transportation scours the campus and removes abandoned bikes. After a 30-day holding period, these bikes are made available for sale at low cost to the campus and Orange County communities.
The reCycle Fair is held on the last Wednesday of the month, October to May, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the corner of Campus Drive and Jamboree Road. At this event, salvaged bicycles and parts can be purchased at a low cost. Most bikes require minimal repair such as new inner tubes, cleaning of rust, and tuning.
Bikes and bike parts that are not purchased are donated to the Bicycle Donation Program. These bikes are cleaned up and donated to organizations such as Shelter for the Homeless in Midway City, Olive Crest Homes, and Services for Abused Children in Santa Ana.
For more information on these programs, please contact the bicycle coordinator or call (949) 824-2691. The reCycle Fair times and dates are subject to change dependent on variables such as weather conditions, bike supply, and campus emergencies.
